Besides coaching competitive swimming, Coach Richard and his swimmers also take pride in giving back to society by involving themselves in community projects with Special Olympics Singapore.
The programme, which is held weekly, aims to provide sporting and social opportunities for individuals with intellectual disability.
In 2015, Coach Richard was appointed as head coach for the Special Olympics Singapore Swimming Team, that competed in the World Summer Games, held in Los Angeles. The Team, which comprised of 4 male and 4 female athletes bagged multiple medals.
“Competing in the Special Olympics is the moment they will always remember. They are representing Special Olympics Singapore on the world stage, but most importantly it teaches them the true value of sportsmanship and friendship created with other athletes.” – The Straits Times, August 2015.
